Having a great product and sales strategy is great. You have put in the blood, sweat and tears and now are sitting on something that may or may not be completely revolutionary. You thought your work here was done, but now you have to actually spend more time marketing your product and driving traffic to your web site. After all, no one will buy your product if they do not see it!

You may have some clue about how to drive traffic to your web site or sales page. There is viral marketing, social networking, reverse marketing, SEO articles, and meta tagging your site. All of these things can be very beneficial in “breaking out” your product. However, there is a part of SEO that you may not have heard about called offsite optimization or “link building”.

The truth is that you need to spend as much time marketing your product as you can, and to use every technique at your disposal. It is not enough to try just one or two of the techniques listed above, but a varying degree of each depending on your product and skills. Using “link building” is a great way to get your web site to climb up the search engine popularity scale and to drive more traffic to your site.

So exactly what is offsite optimization? Does it mean you walk out in the middle of a field and try to advertise your product away from your computer? Hardly! It is simply a way to use links to gain popularity with the search engines. You see, search engines have found ways to count links on thousands of websites and to rank sites based on how many links to your website are out there. You can imagine how this can relate to article building to send traffic to your website.

Technically, you want to make sure your links are inbound, one way, and have the right anchor text for your web site. The articles you build should each have a link to your website and the articles should be relevant to the topic of your web site. If not, the search engines will actually see them as a type of spam and devalue them! Not good for generating traffic to your website.

One of the best and most fun ways of building your link density is to work with other sites or affiliates and exchange links. The sites you visit will either give you instructions on how to do this or you can just mail the web master directly. For the most part, anyone would be happy to share links with you as it builds up their own popularity as well.

There are many other ways to distribute links such as purchasing links, press releases, link bait and reciprocal linking. However, it seems the best way, still, is to build articles around the content on your page and then distribute those along with your links. Not only are you able to build some excitement about your product or service, but you can be as creative as you want to be with your articles.
